Last weekend, a ribbon cutting ceremony was hosted on board the United States Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw Maritime Museum in Mackinaw City to honor the women who helped construct the vessel and many others.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, the new exhibit below deck on the decommissioned icebreaker Mackinaw, which has been converted into a museum, was officially opened to the public. The exhibit was put together with the help of members of the local American Rosie the Riveter Association, Angie Morthland and Linda Rogers.

“I was approached by Angie last year about the possibility of doing something on the ship to honor the women who built the ship,” said Mackinaw Maritime Museum Executive Director Lisa Pallagi. “Our two heads got together, Linda got involved, and just decided to make it all about the women who both built and served.”
