The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery has unveiled its latest exhibit in hopes of building awareness and understanding around mental health.

“Mental Health: Mind Matters” opened Oct. 3 at the Fort Collins museum, 408 Mason Court, boasting hands-on interactive and multimedia activities to help visitors explore mental health and its impacts in society, according to a news release from the museum.

Offerings include theater sets and audio recordings that depict what life was like for people with mental illnesses throughout history and in different parts of the world, activities like “the Worry Shredder,” emotion recognition games and more.

The exhibit is presented by Larimer County Behavioral Health Services in English, Spanish and French.

“When it comes to mental health, the first step toward understanding and acceptance is conversation,” Laura Valdez, the executive director of Fort Collins Museum of Discovery’s nonprofit partner side, said in the release. “In taking this first step, we can have honest and open conversations about mental health — with our family, our friends, our classmates and our community. Conversations around mental health were important before this year and are even more so now.”
