The Illinois State Museum (ISM) has opened a new exhibit, called “Journal of a Plague Year: Illinois in 2020.”

ISM said the exhibition’s title is inspired by Daniel Defoe’s 1722 book “Journal of a Plague Year.” It was chosen to put the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of other pandemics, or “plagues,” throughout history.

The exhibition includes submissions from ISM’s COVID-19 collecting initiative, “Illinois in the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Back in April, the museum asked Illinoisans to share their experiences with the coronavirus pandemic. People could submit poems, stories, pictures, and items. ISM said they received hundreds of submissions through the collecting initiative.
